Emissions and questionable billionaires or not: space is exciting and should inspire us to create new works of art! If Elon Musk and NASA have the goal of “making space accessible to everyone” – then who is everyone? We want to be part of the next space mission! We want to go into space! For SPACE DUDES – Once there and back, the space crew, consisting of Henrike Iglesias, Frank Häusermann, Olivia Hyunsin Kim and Rabea Lüthi, dives into the visual worlds of outer space and the mockumentary genre. In an application video, shot live on stage, the artists want to convince space companies and organizations that they have earned their seats on a sponsored orbital flight – because they wouldn’t be able to afford what is probably the most expensive vacation in the world. To prepare for the trip into space, the performers transform the Sophiensæle’s Festsaal into an astronaut training course. Together, they question the touristic exploration of space, rub shoulders with their fascination for space dudes, give free rein to their curiosity and dig deep into the theater’s bag of tricks to make a piece of the universe accessible to the audience.
During the first moon walk, the Apollo 11 crew overcame gravity with the help of a bra company that made the spacesuits. How can the probably most expensive piece of clothing for the world's most emission-heavy excursion be realized in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible way? With a beach tent, a parachute and some old bras. The Textilhafen e.V. of Berliner Stadtmission supported us with the collection.
